On 19 January 1983, people from Neath to the Rhondda reported the same thing — a huge triangle covered in lights.
Neath Port Talbot has the densest record in this batch: some 80 geographically validated reports across 1856 to 2022. Its story turns on a single night in January 1983 and a busy late-1970s cluster around Neath and Briton Ferry.
The phrase “Night of the Triangles” is a research label, not a single documented event. What the records actually show is a run of reports on 19 January 1983, from Neath and Port Talbot across to Swansea, the Rhondda and the Vale — people describing large triangular craft with coloured lights. Within Neath Port Talbot, the accounts point to Skewen and Neath, Baglan, and Llandarcy.
One of the clearest local accounts from that night describes three large triangles over Baglan. It is specialist-archive (SUFON) sourced; independent press coverage has not been recovered.

Before 1983 the area had already produced a concentrated run: a “jelly-fish” and a disc over Briton Ferry in late December 1977, then a series of Neath reports in January and February 1978 — two white triangles, a bright white light, a cigar, an oval with lights, and a disc.
The record reaches back to an 1856 “Vale of Neath” abduction account and a 1947 Neath Abbey silver wheel-disc, and forward to a 2004 Seven Sisters report of two silver discs that appeared to follow a plane.
