FBI digital rendering of the Colorado Springs 2022 potato-shaped UAP above Cheyenne Mountain

The Colorado Springs “Potato” UAPFIVE ARMY WITNESSES · FBI FORENSIC RENDERING · OFFICIALLY UNRESOLVED

Five U.S. Army service members at Fort Carson reported a large, silent, opalescent object hovering above Cheyenne Mountain. They described an angular, asymmetrical “potato” whose surface seemed to be made of irregular panels moving in slow waves while the body itself stayed motionless.

THE FAST ANSWER

This is not just a funny nickname attached to a blurry photo.

MULTI-WITNESS

Five soldiers saw it

The core event is a group visual sighting, not a single internet upload.

NO INCIDENT PHOTO

The hero is a reconstruction

FBI-UAP-D003 is a forensic digital rendering based on later witness interview, not contemporaneous photography.

OFFICIAL ANALYSIS

Possible sunlight backscatter

An IC partner suggested reflected sunlight from snow illuminating low cloud, but only with low confidence.

OFFICIAL STATUS

Still unresolved

The government release did not close the case with a definitive identification.

THE FOUR-DOCUMENT GOVERNMENT FILE CLUSTER

Each record adds a different layer to the case.

FBI-UAP-D001

Initial federal case record

Establishes the case in the FBI file chain and anchors the later interview and reconstruction documents.

FBI-UAP-D002

Witness interview

Contains the detailed first-hand account: opalescent appearance, moving panel-like surface, blue-sky memory and sudden disappearance.

FBI-UAP-D003

Forensic digital rendering

Visual reconstruction produced in 2024 from witness description. It is not an incident photograph.

ICA-UAP-D001

Analytical assessment

Documents the low-confidence sunlight-backscatter / low-cloud explanation and the uncertainties that prevented a firm resolution.

That sequence is the cleanest way to read the case: report → witness testimony → reconstruction → analysis. Mixing those layers is how a reconstruction can accidentally become “the photo.”

WHAT THE WITNESSES SAID THEY SAW

An object with edges, panels and a surface that moved while the body did not.

The most detailed FBI witness account describes a creamy or whitish opalescent object with distinct edges, somewhat translucent with a slight shimmer. Its surface was compared to articulating fish scales or panels — irregular, non-overlapping pieces shifting in slow waves from different points of origin.

The object itself was described as perfectly stationary. One witness later told the FBI that it vanished in the time it took to turn a head, using the word “cloaked.”

“Cloaked” is witness language. The public record establishes a sudden disappearance from view, not a demonstrated cloaking technology.

THE 09:35 VS 11:25 TIMING DISCREPANCY

Two official records do not give the same time.

ICA-UAP-D001

Approximately 09:35 local

The analytical document places the incident at about 09:35 MST.

LATER FBI INTERVIEW

Approximately 11:25 local

The later witness account records a different approximate time, creating a real source discrepancy that matters for reconstructing sun angle, cloud illumination and weather conditions.

Because the official conventional explanation depends on sunlight geometry and atmospheric conditions, a roughly two-hour timing difference is not trivial. Until the discrepancy is resolved, any solar-angle reconstruction should state which time source it uses.

THE FBI FORENSIC RENDERING

Why the image is useful — and where it can mislead.

In July 2024, an FBI forensic artist worked from a witness interview to reconstruct the object. That rendering later became FBI-UAP-D003 and was released publicly in June 2026. It should be treated as a visualisation of remembered testimony, not as camera evidence from 2022.

The image is valuable because it preserves how the witness remembered the object's colour, shape, surface pattern and apparent placement over the mountain. It is not equivalent to camera evidence. Two years of memory, artist interpretation and scene reconstruction sit between the event and the published image.

The correct visual caption is therefore “FBI digital rendering based on first-hand witness description,” never “photo of the Colorado Springs UAP.”

THE OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

Sunlight reflecting from snow onto low cloud — but only at low confidence.

IC PARTNER ANALYSIS

Backscattered sunlight

The official analytical document proposed that sunlight reflecting from mountain snow cover may have illuminated the underside of low-altitude cloud, creating an apparently luminous airborne form.

WHY CONFIDENCE STAYED LOW

Too many geometry and weather uncertainties

The analysis cited uncertainty in witness fields of view, exact snow cover, elevation and cloud amount. It did not treat the explanation as a definitive resolution.

The same analysis said no anomalous data or characteristics were recorded or assessed and that the event did not represent an unknown adversarial capability.

BLUE-BIRD SKY VS LOW-CLOUD HYPOTHESIS

This is the strongest internal tension in the official conventional explanation.

WITNESS MEMORY

Clear, dry, “blue bird” sky

The later FBI interview describes clear conditions with no obvious cloud cover and low humidity. If accurate, that removes the very surface the backscatter model needs.

IC HYPOTHESIS

Sunlight reflected from snow onto low cloud

The official analysis requires some cloud structure in the relevant line of sight and acknowledges uncertainty in exact cloud amount, field of view and snow conditions.

The contradiction matters because this is not a generic alternative explanation — it is the specific mechanism advanced in the government analysis. But witness weather recall is still retrospective, and localised or thin cloud can be missed or remembered differently.

Best reading: the clear-sky testimony materially weakens the backscatter explanation, while the available records are still not enough to prove a solid anomalous craft.

WHAT REMAINS STRONG — AND WHAT DOESN'T

The case is visually memorable, but the evidence is still eyewitness-led.

FIRST COMPETITOR POSITION

UAP Globe is strong on witness texture. Our opportunity is source hierarchy.

UAP Globe does a very good job making the witness account vivid: five Army personnel, fish-scale-like panels, motionless body, sudden disappearance, and the later FBI forensic rendering.

Where this V2 can lead is by making the hierarchy cleaner and surfacing the internal contradictions competitors rely on: FBI-D001 → D002 witness interview → D003 forensic rendering → ICA low-confidence explanation → unresolved release status. It now also makes the 09:35 vs 11:25 timing discrepancy and the blue-bird-sky vs low-cloud tension explicit, while keeping the key visual warning impossible to miss: D003 is a reconstruction, not an incident photograph.
