Billy Meier's case is often presented as a mountain of evidence: daylight photographs, films, sounds, metal samples, witnesses and thousands of pages of contact reports. The only fair way to test a corpus that large is to stop treating volume as proof and audit each item by provenance, chain of custody and reproducibility.
FIGU currently says Meier produced 1,476 photographs and 34 films of “beamships” from 1964–1979, alongside witness testimony, sound recordings, landing traces, metal samples and tens of thousands of pages of contact reports. citeturn694944search0turn671962view2
That scale is exactly why this case must not be written as “so much evidence cannot all be fake.” Volume creates more material to test; it does not remove the need to establish where each negative, reel, tape and sample came from.
The correct unit of analysis is not “the Meier case.” It is photograph 1, film 1, sound tape 1, metal sample 1, witness statement 1 — each with its own custody trail.

A huge corpus can hide weak provenance. A better test is to choose the most famous images and force each one through the same forensic checklist.
Test object scale, tree geometry, focus, line-of-sight and any suspension hypothesis.
Recover exact camera position, landscape references and negative/print generation.
Audit apparent structure, reflections, image generation and any close-model geometry.
Use the highest-resolution frames to test reflections, scale, repeated parts and environmental geometry.
Frame-by-frame motion test: pendulum period, camera movement, parallax and suspension-point behaviour.
Original negative or reel → camera/lens → exact location → first-generation copy → independent analysis → reproducible model/craft test. No item gets to borrow credibility from the rest of the corpus.
The Stevens/Elders/Welch investigation is central to the pro-Meier case. FIGU describes it as a multi-year examination involving photographs, film, sound, metal samples, witness interviews and polygraph-style testing, and today characterises the result as authentication. citeturn671962view2
Investigators visited the property, interviewed participants and gathered physical/media material. That makes their records historically important.
A chain of consultants, reproductions and claimant-supplied samples is not equivalent to one controlled blind forensic examination of securely held originals.
For each “expert authenticated it” claim, retrieve the expert's own report, exact sample/image generation, question asked and stated limitations.

Critical analyses associated with Kal Korff and later Skeptical Inquirer coverage argue that known camera focal lengths and apparent object size place many photographed “beamships” close to the camera as small models rather than tens-of-metres-wide craft at great distance. Re-run those calculations photograph by photograph. Use original scan dimensions, known focal length, landscape reference points and depth-of-field. “Model” should be a demonstrated geometric solution, not just a visual insult.
Korff-associated analyses argue that focal length, apparent object size, depth cues and occasional line-like artefacts place some craft close to the camera as models. Those claims should be re-run image by image rather than inherited wholesale.
Pro-Meier researchers argue critics sometimes used wrong landscapes, wrong scale assumptions or known model photos as if they were claimed beamships, and that some reproductions fail to match Meier's geometry. citeturn244302search3
A successful model recreation of one frame does not automatically explain every Meier photograph. Likewise, failure to reproduce one image does not authenticate the corpus. Each item gets its own geometric result.
Photographs circulated in the Meier corpus as Asket and Nera were later matched to performers Michelle DellaFave and Susan Lund from The Dean Martin Show. DellaFave herself confirmed that she was the woman visible in the image. citeturn693736search8turn693736search6
FIGU's present defence is not that the television match is imaginary. Its literature argues that false material was inserted/manipulated by others and that forged photographs entered Meier's collection without his knowledge. If forged items entered the corpus, the response cannot be “ignore the fakes and trust the rest.” It creates a custody problem for the whole archive. Every surviving image must establish its own negative/print lineage independently.

Published reproductions may not represent the first-generation image.
For every flagship photograph, identify the negative, developer, first print, scan generation and known transfers.
An expert testing one print cannot authenticate every photograph or later reproduction in the corpus.
FIGU's current investigation page says 230 photographs and several films were manipulated after material was stolen. That claim is potentially case-changing — but only if it can be itemised.

If the manipulation claim is demonstrated, many published “gotcha” images may be evidentially worthless. If it cannot be itemised, the defence remains difficult to test and cannot be used as a blanket answer to every problematic image.
The Wedding Cake UFO is one of the strongest pro-Meier exhibits because it appears detailed, close and repeatedly photographed. Pro-Meier analyst Rhal Zahi used reflections in the craft's spherical elements, site geometry and computer modelling to argue for a multi-metre object rather than a small hand-held model. citeturn244302search0turn244302search36
Zahi's analysis uses the reflected carriage house, camera position and courtyard geometry to argue the photographed object was roughly 20–23 feet from the carriage-house wall and several metres across. The method is testable because it makes geometric claims from identifiable reflections.
Critics point to apparent household-object similarities, scale-model plausibility and suspension. The correct response is not visual resemblance alone: reproduce the same reflections, depth cues and framing with a model at the claimed alternative scale.
Publish photo #800 and companion frames at the highest lawful generation, map the Semjase Silver Star Center geometry, reproduce Zahi's reflection model independently, then run a matched small-model reconstruction. Whichever solution fits the pixels best wins that photograph.
Bruce Maccabee analysed Meier's early “UFO circling a tree” film and concluded the object's motion was consistent with a pendulum driven by movement of its suspension point. Pro-Meier analyst Rhal Zahi later re-analysed the sequence and argued that period changes, treetop interaction and other details were not adequately explained by a simple suspended model. citeturn709312search6turn709312search0
Measure oscillation period, phase, arc symmetry and whether the apparent path can be generated by moving a suspension point.
Test whether treetop motion, parallax, changing periods and apparent discontinuities fit a distant free-moving object better than a model.
Use the highest-generation film available. Plot object centroid frame-by-frame. Publish the motion curve. A film claim should be decided by kinematics, not impression.

Recorder, microphone, tape generation, calibration, environmental witnesses and blind modern spectral analysis against mechanical/synthesised controls.
Write exactly what each engineer measured and on which tape generation. Then show whether an independent modern laboratory can reproduce the result.
Identify the highest-generation material and its complete custody chain.
Return to the exact Swiss locations and rebuild camera/landscape geometry.
Give independent photographic experts the claimant and model hypotheses without telling them which result is expected.
